This teaching by Bill Johnson is dynamic…although I have not encountered one teaching by Bill that is NOT dynamic! It ministered to me powerfully right now as I diligently seek to know Him more intimately.
TRANSPARENT CONFESSION: I am in a season of becoming more acquainted with the Lord in the fullness of who He is….and in the power of His Resurrection! (Philippians 3:10 )
Evidently, there is a plethora of stuff I needed an upgrade on with regard to what I THOUGHT I knew to be the truth! Beware if we ever come to thinking we know everything there is to know about God. If we think we know everything about Him – the One in Whom there is no beginning and no end….. then He really isn’t God. He is so multi-faceted and finite that it will take our lifetime to uncover the depth of Him!
It is possible to know Him, but impossible to know everything about Him completely this side of Heaven! At the same time, it is important for us to firmly establish His goodness and the character of Who He is in our minds in order to believe Him and His Promises to us. Hebrews 11 tells us that “Abraham BELIEVED GOD and it was credited to him as righteousness!” There is a difference between knowing and believing….and a huge difference between believing in God (that He exists) and believing Him fully (His Word & Truth)! Selah!!!!
It is an ongoing, lifetime process and journey that is based on relationship, not mere knowledge of the black print on the white pages of the Bible. There is a difference between knowing about the things He has done (His ACTS) and knowing the character of the WAY He does things because of His character.
Psalm 103:7 (NASB) “He made known His ways to Moses,
His acts to the sons of Israel.”
Circumstances over this last year have led me to a realization of my deficit in understanding of who I am IN HIM and Who He is in me. That is the only reason I can think of to give thanx for some of the “crap” I’ve gone through this past year; to desperately know and understand Him and His love and character toward me more fully!
Situations have brought me to a time and place where I realize my need for Him more than ever and thankfully He is and has always been There: He has never left me nor forsaken me! (Hebrews 13:5) However, on the way the Lord has revealed to me that I had listened to lies about Who He is and His character and love for me based on my failures!
Thankfully, it is not about me or what I (we) have done, but it is all about who He is and what He has done for me (us)! I should have been taking those thoughts (lies) captive that are in opposition to the obedience of Christ…..to what I KNOW to be Truth – God’s Truth about Who He is! I was “considering” the things Satan was saying to me and lying to me about while to my detriment failing to consider them in Light of the Truth of God’s Word!
The Word of God is our plumbline and everything must measure up to that in order to be legal in our thought process! The only power Satan has is to “suggest” things that oppose God’s Word/Truth. However, Satan is no match for God. They are not on equal footing! Satan is a created being. He may be equal to the Arch Angel Michael, but He is not even a contender with God. God defeated Him at the Cross. Therefore, there is no contest unless we empower his lies with belief and agreement over the Truth of God’s Word! When we KNOW HIM -GOD – IN HIS WAYS, HIS CHARACTER, AND WHO HE IS, THEN WE WILL NEVER COME INTO AGREEMENT WITH THE LIES OF SATAN!
The purpose of Scripture is NOT to give us a set of rules to live by, but rather to reveal to us His character and come to the Knowledge of God!
Jesus Himself rebuked the Pharisees in John 5:38-40 telling them, ” The Father’s teaching does not live in you because you don’t believe in the one the Father sent. You carefully study the Scriptures. You think that THEY give you eternal life. These same Scriptures tell ABOUT me! But you refuse to come to me to have that life.” Scripture should lead us to a living encounter with the One Who is LIFE! If it doesn’t then it is a mere religion that leads to death!
“Jesus answered, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.” John 14:6
The battle takes place in our mind and God is concerned not only with what we think but why we think that way!
I pray this will minister to you as much as it did to me. I will be eating on this hunk of meat for awhile! Heb. 5:12-14
Grace & Peace,
